Portland fans of Trader Joe’s convenient frozen meals, screaming deals on “Two-Buck Chuck” wine, and addictive snacks like peanut butter-filled pretzels have good reason to be happy this week. The independent grocery chain revealed that it will opening a new location in Portland, though it’s staying mum for now about where or when it will open.
As first reported in the Portland Business Journal, rumors have been percolating on social media that Trader Joe’s might take over one of the recently closed Bale’s and Lamb’s Marketplaces. Last fall, that grocer closed four locations in Aloha, Lake Oswego, and the Garden Home and Cedar Mill neighborhoods of unincorporated Washington County.
“While I am not able to confirm an address at this time, I can tell you that we are working to open a new Trader Joe’s store in Portland,” a spokeswoman for Trader Joe’s emailed the Business Journal. She said that there wasn’t a timeline yet for when the store would open.
Trader Joe’s currently has three locations in Portland, as well as five additional stores in Vancouver, Lake Oswego, Beaverton, Hillsboro and Clackamas. On its website, Trader Joe’s has not officially announced a new Portland store. It also doesn’t have any current job listings for Oregon.
