DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - Earlier this week at AllianceHealth Durant, the main hospital’s sterile processing room experienced a leak in the steam bundle.
Over the past 24 hours, News 12 has received multiple calls and emails of concern from employees that wish to remain anonymous. They say that protocols weren’t met, and they suggest that the hospital is trying to handle the situation silently.
One source claims the substance is a mixture of sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, and sodium nitride, which vaporized into multiple departments.
They tell us that after initial findings, employees had to return to work but were then asked to leave when people began feeling symptomatic.
On Thursday, a meeting was held in the cafeteria of the hospital. News 12 tried to attend the meeting but was then asked to leave before the meeting started.
AllianceHealth Durant’s marketing manager sent News 12 the following statement Thursday evening:
Employee and patient safety are always our top priorities. Earlier this week, the main hospital operating room’s sterile processing room experienced a leak in the steam bundle and we have taken steps to remediate.
Surgeries in the main operating room have been suspended so our maintenance team and external experts could ventilate the space, drain the hot water systems and change air unit filters. Air testing is scheduled for tomorrow, and pending final results, the area will then be deep cleaned.
“Our staff is fully focused on the care and comfort of our patients,” said Shelton Williams, Chief Executive Officer at AllianceHealth Durant. “The safety of all who enter our hospital remains our highest priority.”
