HOUSTON/BEAUMONT-PORT ARTHUR — Southeast Texans are complaining about major mail delays linked to problems at postal processing facilities in the Houston area, including Missouri City.
Congressman Al Green held a news conference Monday to highlight the problems and demand accountability from the USPS, according to ABC13.
Dozens of people complain they haven't received packages, some dating to Christmas. One woman is missing her wedding dress.
Green covers Houston's 9th district, which includes the Missouri City area.
The Missouri City center has become a local processing center while the North Houston Processing and Distribution Center is regional.
In a statement, USPS told the Houston Chronicle, "As with any transition, some unintended and temporary disruptions may occur. We are taking steps to ensure packages are processed as quickly and efficiently as possible and apologize to any customers who may be experiencing issues with delivery of their items."
Congressman Green is urging the Postal Service to be more transparent by meeting with the media and having on-site customer service representatives available to assist the public.
Green said he's drafting a letter to send to the committee that oversees the Postal Service and plans to tour two USPS facilities.
He says people can continue to reach out to him for help, in addition to contacting USPS.
