ANNA, Ill. (WSIL) -- COVID-19 isn't slowing down hunters on this opening weekend of Illinois firearm deer season.

Brent Glays who volunteers at Triple-C Meat said the Anna processing plant is staying busy. Glays said on this opening day of the firearm season they have seen at least one-hundred deer brought in for processing.

Glays said he isn't sure COVID is causing a spike in hunting this year or not

"Numbers are up for sure, so not only are we seeing hunters from all over Illinois and Missouri, we are seeing first time hunters. The numbers are almost doubled from last year. So far including archery, we've had almost a thousand deer," said Glays

Glays said that's double the number they saw last year.
