If you live in St. Cloud and haven’t already, it’s time to go vote.
Early voting in the City Council seat 3 special election is under way to fill the seat vacated by Council member Chuck Cooper’s passing in June at the age of 72.
The Supervisor of Elections distributed about 8,000 vote-by-mail ballots. If you’ve yet to retu rn your mail-in ballot, at this point the SOE recommends you drop it off at its office at 2509 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (north side of intersection at Partin Settlement
Road) or at the St. Cloud Civic Center on 17th Street.
Voters can vote early in person through Friday at the SOE from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If you don’t cast a ballot by Saturday, Election Day is on Tuesday at six regular polling locations from 7 to 7 (Tohoqua voters will vote at the St. Cloud Civic Center; they were mailed a notice regarding this change). Voters should refer to their voter registration card, or the SOE website (voteosceola.com) for their location.
As a reminder, the five candidates are: Phillip Lantry, an architect and lifelong St. Cloud resident; Jose Martinez, a business owner and chair of the non-profit the St. Cloud Proud Foundation; Daniel Minckler, a seven-year resident, system designer in the energy industry and former City Council member in Kingsland, Ga.; Victor Rivera, a public property adjustor, business consultant and active community volunteer; Kolby Urban, a housing contractor, lifelong resident and member of the city’s Economic Advisory committee.
If none of those five receive 50 percent plus one vote in next week’s primary, the top two votegetters will meet in a Nov. 9 special general election.
