The Schleuniger Group, a Switzerland-based supplier of wire processing and testing, announced earlier this month that it has expanded its market position through the acquisition of a similar manufacturer in the U.S.

Schleuniger, which has North American sales headquarters in Manchester, New Hampshire, has purchased Salt Lake City, Utah-based Cirris Systems for an undisclosed amount.

Employee-owned Cirris has developed and manufactured wire and harness test equipment since 1984. Its product range includes testers, adapters, software, accessories, and custom products, with representation and distribution in more than 20 countries.

Meanwhile, Schleuniger has been supplying the wire processing and testing market since 1975. Primarily serving the automotive, entertainment, and information industries, the company has more than 900 employees across North America, Europe, and Asia, along with more than 40 distribution partners.

The two companies have partnered over the past two decades. Their merger enables Cirris to operate as a one-stop-shop for cable and harness needs, integrated with Schleuniger’s cutting, stripping, and processing equipment.

“Throughout this time, our companies developed separate strategies to utilize our products and services to help our customers,” Schleuniger stated on its acquisition information website. “With the merger of our companies, we can collaborate and develop new solutions to serve the industry.”

Schleuniger said the acquisition boosts its testing portfolio, coming after its 2018 majority purchase of Germany-based test equipment maker Adaptronic Prüftechnik GmbH. Before that, Schleuniger kicked off its entry into the wire testing market when it bought test automation solutions provider Cirris Solutions GmbH, which later became Schleuniger Test Automation GmbH, also in Germany.

The newest acquisition broadens Schleuniger's testing portfolio to now include North America.

Cirris Systems' president and CEO will retain those roles at Cirris, which will become Cirris Inc., following completion of the transaction, which is expected in the third quarter of 2020.

Schleuniger had 2019 sales of $221 million. It is a subsidiary of Switzerland-based Metall Zug Group, which had 2019 sales of $1.3 billion and has approximately 5,100 employees.
