Does it feel as though the LA Rams forgot something? - Ramblin' Fan

The LA Rams have certainly not been second-guessing themselves of late. In fact, the entire organization seems to be humming and purring along like one big happy racing car engine idling at about 100 miles per hour.  Everything is happening quickly, but the overall effect feels somewhat like slow motion. Well, to most, I suppose.

Have you ever packed for a trip and then, after zipping the last piece of luggage, recalled those one or two items desperately needed for the trip after doing so? Unfortunately, there is that unshakable feeling of “oops, forgot something” that can happen to me long before I figure out what it is that I needed. Sometimes, that riddle lingers for hours, perhaps even long into the midst of the journey, before I figure out what it is that I missed.  And then, when I realize it, it’s a scramble through an airport shop to purchase the item at twice the price.

Right now, the LA Rams roster feels somewhat like that.

Whether it is that one last plug and play offensive lineman, that reserve defensive back who could take the football field with confidence after the BYE week, or simply just the presence of one backup pocket passer in case veteran Matthew Stafford is shaken up, something just feels missing with the Rams roster as is.

Perhaps it’s the fact that while other NFL teams sit at 90, the LA Rams sit at 88. Two vacancies, two slots for someone to join this team and compete for a starting role. If that spot was to be used for a camp body, there are plenty of hopeful young men who did not hear their name called during the 2021 NFL Draft who have yet to sign up with an NFL team.

No, those vacancies feel deliberate. Almost as though the Rams have created vacancies to use in those last-second bargain shopping excursions through the NFL Free Agency market. Perhaps the Rams are trying to sign a veteran offensive center to a deeply discounted contract?  Perhaps the team has an eye on a veteran cornerback who played for a rival last year, but who has yet to sign up with a team this year?

In any case, it truly feels to me as though the Rams are missing something or somebody. Does it feel like that to anyone else?  I suppose that it is okay that the Rams are missing something to me. After all, as long as they have a plan to fill those last two roster spots, that is.

Adblock test (Why?)
