Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager says his Times Square Edition hotel was a major hit, even though it’s closing just a year after its ballyhooed opening.
Bloomberg reported that the hotel, operated by Marriott, is shuttering Aug. 13, and Marriott notified the property’s owner Maefield Development in March as part of a foreclosure proceeding.
Schrager said on Instagram: “It is very unfortunate that The Times Square EDITION got dragged into a dispute between the real estate owner and its financial institutions. The dispute has absolutely nothing to do with the hotel or its resounding success.”
